Woody, The Kentucky Wiener's World Famous First-Class Puh-Sketti

Kentucky Greetings, WoodyWatchers! If you are reading Dog Gone Wild, you know I how much I love the book On Top of Spaghetti. It is written and illustrated by Kentucky native Paul Brett Johnson - who happens to be our illustrator!

www.paulbrettjohnson.com.

Anyway, in Chapter 7 of DGW, I am thinking about that book, singing that song, and craving a big dish of pasta. If you are keeping up with the activities in your classroom, we challenged you to make my very own, Woody, The Kentucky Wiener's World Famous First-Class Puh-Sketti. Here is the recipe:

Woody, The Kentucky Wiener's World Famous First-Class Puh-Sketti

Ingredients (the things you will need):

1 pound hamburger (not a hamburger with the bun, mustard, or pickles – just the meat)
1 onion, chopped (be prepared to cry)
1 6 ounce can tomato paste (not to be confused with tooth paste or glue paste)
3 small cans tomato sauce
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

Puh-Sketti noodles

Directions:

Make sure you have an adult who actually knows his or her way around the kitchen. A good test is whether they know the difference between a stove and an oven. If so, you are in business!

In a pan on the stove, brown hamburger and onions. (Brown means "to cook" - not "to color with a crayon.") Pour off all the fat. (We thought the fat looked delicious, but Mom said we couldn’t eat the fat.) Add remaining ingredients to the hamburger and onions . Simmer 2-3 hours. (Simmer means to keep it hot but don’t let it boil.) Serve over Puh-Sketti noodles. Make sure you cook the spaghetti noodles - especially if you don't like crunchy Puh-Sketti.

It taste great with a salad on the side, maybe a stick or two of beef jerky, and a fresh bowl of water to keep the whistle wet! Top it off with Vanilla WOOFERS and a small dish of ice cream for dessert! Talk about a meal fit for a King!

Take a picture of you making or eating our Puh-Sketti and we will send you a surprise in the mail! Make sure you wear an apron. It can get pretty messy!

Enjoy!

Work and Dream like a BIG DOG!
