Friends from WOODYford County

Kentucky Greetings, WoodyWatchers! Once again, it is raining cats and dogs at our doghouse in Shepherdsville! Chloe, the rest of my siblings, and I spent most of the day inside. We went out only when we needed to, well, you know. Chloe says it isn't polite to talk about those things so I will move on.

Our favorite friends in WOODYford County sent me an email giving me ideas on how to exercise! They were such terRUFFic ideas I wanted to share them with you. Take a look:

Hi Woody!

It's your friends in Woodyford county! We read chapter two and we surprised by what was in the box! There are a few students in our class who have an interest in the military and they helped us learn what 'Boot Camp' was. Hopefully your boot camp won't be a tough as that!

We discussed ways we can exercise without a gym and came up with a really long list! Here are five things you can do:
1. Join a sports team
2. Do push ups
3. Do jumping jacks
4. Ride your bike
5. Go for a walk

We are thinking that your first mission while in boot camp will be to go hiking. We think this because the area where you are traveling has a lot of great places to hike.

We can't wait to hear what happens once you get to your first destination!

Talk to you soon!

I wonder if any of the students know Coach CAL at UK. I would love to play point guard for the CATS! Talk about a dream come true!!! In the meantime, I will continue to do jumping jacks and ride my bike!!!

I better skeedaddle. We have a busy week of travel! Tomorrow we are in Dry Ridge, KY and then Thursday we skip on down to Owensboro! I better get my backpack ready and get to bed early so I can be on top of my game tomorrow!

Keep reading the story, keep the emails coming, and Work and Dream like a BIG DOG!

Zip-uh-dee-do-dah!

Kentucky Greetings, WoodyWatchers! Hope you are having a great day! It is raining here at our doghouse in Shepherdsville. It seems to be raining lots lately, but that's okay. It gives me a chance to stay in more, read books, play checkers with my siblings, and catch up on emails.

Our friends from Ms. Matthis's class at Owensboro 5/6 Center have been keeping my inbox filled with great emails! I was so excited yesterday to see all the emails come in that my paws got so crazy and I hit the wrong button. Unfortunately, the button I hit was "DELETE!" Whoops! Thanks to Mom, she was able to fetch the emails for me. So, if you sent me an email and I haven't replied, that is why! Sometimes I can be so clumsy and impulsive!

Anyway, if you are reading UNLEASHED, you know that Doc Albert put together a Rx Box for Chloe and me. Our trainer this week had us zip line! Talk about being a scaredy cat! I asked students to email me to tell me other places in KY we could zipper, uh, zip line. I copied the emails from our friends in Ms. Mathis's class. I copied them word for word so you could see how terRUFFic they were! Hopefully I didn't miss any emails. If I missed your email, send me another one so I can add it to this great list! Unleashed

Kentucky Greetings, WoodyWatchers! Hopefully you are reading Unleashed, participating in the activities, and listening to me read the chapter each week. We are receiving tons of emails regarding the story. In fact, students in Ms. Tina Matthis's class at Owensboro 5 and 6 Center have been emailing me plenty of suggestions on how Chloe and I can get some exercise. The suggestions have been terRUFFic - and sound like so much fun! In fact, some of them didn't even seem like exercise at all - but Mom and Dad reminded us that exercise can be enjoyable!

We combined a list of all the answers and included them for you to read. Chloe and I copied them exactly the way the email was written. We also listed the first names of all our contributors below. When we get fit because of these suggestions, we want to make sure our friends get the credit! Maybe you can find some new ways to exercise too!

Thanks again everyone for the ideas! We can't wait to try them out! Unfortunately, it is raining puppy dogs and kitty cats here at our doghouse in Shepherdsville so exercising outside isn't a possibility now. Mom said that wasn't an excuse. She said that push ups, pull ups, curl ups, squats, Jumping Jacks, and lots of other activities could be done inside. When I put on my skates and started skating through the living room, Mom explained skating was an outside activity. Oh well, I guess I will work on curl ups - then I'm going to curl up in the bed for a cat nap!

UNLEASHED - Chapter 1

Kentucky Greetings, WoodyWatchers! It is a rainy day here at our doghouse in Shepherdsville! Chloe and I have finished our lunch, completed our chores, and are getting ready to play a game of Chinese Checkers! Before we pulled all the marbles out, I wanted to show you an email we received earlier from our friends at Simmons Elementary in WOODYford County. Last year, Ms. Logan's 3rd Grade Reading Class followed Doghouse Divided. Already, her brand new 3rd Graders are reading UNLEASED. Here was an email Chloe and I received last evening:

Hi Woody!

This is Ms. Logan at Simmons Elementary! I have a whole new group of 3rd graders in my reading class this year and they are so excited about reading your new book! They all remember when you came to visit us last year! I hope you and Chloe (and your mom and dad) are doing well.

Here is what my class predicts is in your Rx box:

-Healthy Foods/Water/Fruit Juice
-A book or cookbooks about healthy living
-An exercise machine

We are looking forward to reading chapter 2 and finding out! Hopefully you will be able to watch what foods you eat and get some more exercise so your test scores go down at the doctor!

Talk to you soon,

Ms. Logan's 3rd Grade Reading Class

A cookbook, you say? An exercise machine? Hmmmm... Interesting! I guess you will have to read the next chapter to see if you're correct! By the way, don't you love our new illustrator, Mr. Chris Ware? And if you haven't listened to the podcast, make sure you do so. Everyone thinks it is so much fun listening to me read the story!

I better go. Chloe just brought me the Chinese Checkers game. She said some of the pieces are missing! Uh oh, I think I lost my marbles!

Dog Days of Summer

Kentucky Greetings, WoodyWatchers! Have you ever know it to be so doggone hot??? We have to go out and play early in the morning and late in the evening. Mom says it's too hot to play outside in the middle of the day! We finally convinced Mom we could handle the heat the other day. She took us outside and we made it a whopping 4 minutes before we admitted that once again Mom and Dad were right and we needed to go inside. It was too hot. So, if we haven't been working, our days have been spent playing on the bed with our favorite toys, reading books, and playing Checkers, Go Fish, UNO, and Old Maid. Here is a picture from a few days ago:

Our Nana gave us those toys and we love playing with them. We have all different colors and shapes! As much as we love playtime, there's always work on our calendar. We just sent Mr. Nathan our schedule for August so he could post it on the Tour Page. September and October are almost full. Once we have everything in place, we will post that schedule on the Tour Page too. For now, here is our schedule for August:

We are definitely ready to pack our Scooby backpacks and hit the road again! We're ready to meet new people and learn new things!

We've heard our new book is almost ready and the brand new newspaper series, Unleashed will premiere soon. I will post the newspapers that have signed up so you can see if your paper is on the list! If not, we have to call them!

I better run for now. Rudy the puppy is getting the Go Fish cards out of the toy box. I want to make sure Rudy deals me in the game!

Stay cool, drink lots of water, wear your sunscreen, and listen to your parents! And don't forget to Work and Dream like a BIG DOG!

My Very Own Library Card

Kentucky Greetings, WoodyWatchers! Chloe, Frannie, Wally, CeeCee, Rudy, and of course Mom, Dad, and I have had the busiest summer already! Last week found us in Lancaster, Wiiliamstown, Lexington, and Booneville. This week will be busy too - but we will be close to our doghouse in Shepherdsville. We will be spending Tuesday through Friday at a different branch of the Bullitt County Public Library. Here is the schedule:

Tuesday - Lebanon Junction Library 10:00 and 1:30

Wednesday - Hillview Library 10:00 and 1:30

Thursday - Ridgway Library in Shepherdsville 10:00 and 1:30

Friday - Mt. Washington Library 10:00 and 1:30

Come see us! We will have a blast!

Here is a picture of Ms. Cheryl Clemons, the librarian at Grant County Public Library, presenting me with my very own library card! Can you believe that? MY OWN LIBRARY CARD! That means I can check out books in Grant County! I was so excited! My Scooby Doo wallet is getting fat with all my library cards!

I better say goodnight. It is time for a bedtime snack, bedtime story, bedtime prayers, then bedtime. Busy day tomorrow and busy week! Can't wait to see you! In the meantime, Work and Dream like a BIG DOG!

Accidents happen!

Kentucky Greetings, WoodyWatchers! Our family just returned home from Sunday School, had a delicious lunch and a nice long walk! This week was so much fun! We spent the week in Flemingsburg, East Bernstadt, and finished it up at Campbellsville University yesterday!

The funniest thing happened yesterday - if you want to call it that! Mom and I spoke at the Beulah Campbell Reading Conference in Campbellsville, KY at the University. At the end of our session, Dad brought in a few more of my siblings. When he handed my baby sister CeeCee to Kaela (one of the conference participants), CeeCee got so excited, couldn't control herself, and did something that rhymed with her name all over Kaela. Megan didn't come out clean. Her notes were soaked! You've heard the old saying, "The dog ate my homework?" Well I wonder what Megan's professor is going to say when Megan tells her that "The dog had an accident on my homework!" Maybe Megan can show the professor our blog. Both Kaela and Megan were great sports! Mom gave them free books - and even gave Kaela a "Work and Dream like a BIG DOG" sweatshirt!

We couldn't have made it through the day without Jessica! Jessica was our helper. Our Chief of Staff for the day. She sold books, helped us set up equipment, took us where we needed to be, and even helped Mom find her way out of the janitor's closet when she got lost. Dad always says Mom is not the best at finding her way around. Yesterday was proof!

Anyway, we wanted to show you a picture. From left to right is Megan, Kaela (wearing different clothes than when we first met her), me, Mom, and Jessica! Isn't this a great picture?

I better go. We are going to take a Sunday catnap and then work on our new story that will be coming out in newspapers across the state in September.

Have a great day! And here's a piece of advice - if Dad ever hands you CeeCee, make sure you are wearing a raincoat!

Jet setters!

Kentucky Greetings, WoodyWatchers! As usual, I am beginning with an apology. I'm so sorry I've done a horrible, terrible, no good, very bad job on keeping up with my diary. Our schedule has been busier the past few months than it has been in a year or two! Don't get me wrong - we aren't complaining, but we are behind! In the past 10 days, we have been to Sedalia and Benton (both in Western KY), been to Berea (Eastern KY), Harrodsburg (Central KY) and Evansville, IN! Tonight will find us in Paris (Kentucky, NOT FRANCE) and Thursday our Gang will be in Owensboro. Yes, we are jet-setters! Only we don't have a jet! And we don't have an Irish Setter either. But you get the point.

So, between our travel and writing a new story, we've been busy. Don't worry - we've rested and eaten and played too! In fact, I put a few pictures up so you can see!

Better skee-daddle! It is lunch time and I smell some really good stuff coming from the kitchen! Could it be? Oh wow! Could it really be???? Yes - it is! My favorite! Chicken and eggs!

Have a great day! Keep in touch and Work and Dream like a BIG DOG!

2012

Kentucky Greetings, WoodyWatchers! Hope all my friends had a terRUFFic Christmas and New Year! Our family had a fun holiday season. As usual, Santa Paws was very good to us! He brought each of us a present. I got a new stuffed animal that squeaks when you bite it. I love carrying it around and sleeping with it every night!

Chloe, Frannie, Wally, Rudy, and I all tried really, really hard to stay up until midnight on New Year's Eve, but we couldn't do it. Mom said we made it until about 9:30. That's okay, we all gave our New Year kisses when we woke up!

We took our tree down and was very careful about putting all the ornaments away so they would be safe all year. We have a Charlie Brown tree. We love Charlie Brown and Snoopy. So many of our friends give us ornaments. It makes us happy to look at each one and think about the person who gave it to us.

Everyone has been asking us if we have any New Year resolutions. I didn't even know what a resolution was but Mom explained it was making a decision to improve on something. I'm going to try to be a better drummer and harmonica player. I'm also going to improve my table manners! No more talking with my mouth full of food! As our friends in Ms. Hisle and Ms. Logan's class reminded us, nobody wants to see our yucky chewed-up food!

Speaking of Ms. Hisle and Ms. Logan, we spent the day with them before Christmas break! It was incredible! They sang "The Yellow Rose of Texas" for us. It was beautiful! They gave Chloe a run for her money - and you know how pretty Chloe sings the song! We're going to put some pictures on the blog of our visit very soon!

As usual, we're behind. We have a long list of things to do today. We are shipping books, getting ready for school visits to start again, sending updates to Mr. Nathan so we can get our online doghouse up-to-date, writing thank you notes, the list is endless! Since we're behind on our website, we wanted to post our January dates. We just sent them to Mr. Nathan so they will be on the Tour Page soon. In the meantime, here you go:

We're also looking forward to Memphis Christian Church. Our friend Zoe's uncle is the minister at MCC! We will be on our best behavior!

I better skee-daddle! The list keeps getting longer and the time keeps ticking!
